Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL)

Charge can't disappear – what comes in must go out! Let's explore junctions.

The Big Idea Behind KCL

At any junction (node), total current in = total current out. It's conservation of charge – simple physics!

Math: Sum I_in = Sum I_out or All I = 0

Kirchhoff's Current Law Circuit Diagram

Figure 1: Currents meet at a node – in equals out!

Formula Time

I1 + I2 + I3 + ... = 0 (pick direction convention)

How to Use It

1. Spot nodes.

2. Pick ground.

3. Write equations: currents leaving = 0.

4. Solve!

Quick Example

I1 = 2A in, I2 = -1A out, so I3 = -1A out. Balanced!
